Kingdom Hearts 3 Director Skeptical on Future Worldwide Releases

Following an early leak of Kingdom Hearts 3, game director Tetsuya Nomura is hesitant on future worldwide releases.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the release of upcoming Kingdom Hearts III on January 29, 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from massively popular action role-playing game series Kingdom Hearts by developer/publisher Square Enix with only a few days left.

As the whole world jumping in excitement for one of the most anticipated games of 2019 to launch shortly, game director Tetsuya Nomura is currently rethinking worldwide releases for his upcoming projects in future because of an early leak of KH3.

Back in December 2018, four physical copies of KH III game got leaked online months before its launch and even though Nomura pre-conceived a contingency plan for a situation like this to prevent spoilers, it was a great disappointment for the director.

The last mainline entry into the franchise was Kingdom Hearts II, which came out on 2005 for PlayStation 2 and the studio had the fans wait for another fourteen years for a true sequel featuring Sora and friends, which is a really long time to wait for.

RELATED: Limited Edition Kingdom Hearts 3 PS4 Pro Bundle Revealed

If you think that was a long period of waiting then you may as well expect it be prolonged even more inn future for projects that Tetsuya Nomura will be working on, because his frustration as Kingdom Hearts series creator and director of KH3 about the situation is pretty obvious.

One of his solutions to avoid such leak ahead of time is to release the game in other regions first before eventually releasing them around the globe on a later date other than simultaneous worldwide release for the retail version at the very least.

RELATED: Kingdom Hearts 3 Tangled Trailer

When it comes to game development, Nomura is quite adamant on his control over the process and he even gave Disney a condition to let him include Toy Story during initial planning phase, otherwise not willing to make KH III at all.

Luckily for him, things worked nicely for him for the project but fans now fear that the highly anticipated, upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake for PlayStation 4 may not see a concurrent worldwide release or at least not for the physical version.

RELATED: Top 10 Most Anticipated Video Games of 2019

Once Kingdom Hearts III is released within the next few days, Nomura would be shifting his entire focus on FFVII project but would still be attached to KH3 and he has good reasons to do that if rumors of a Nintendo Switch port of the game being in works are correct.

Now, it would be hugely upsetting for fans of the Final Fantasy role-playing game series if they are being limited to enjoy his work digitally for a certain time but we don't see anything at this moment that could make him change his mind.

Rogue One Writer Wants Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

Co-writer of Rogue One, Gary Whitta believes Disney should pull the plug on their Star Wars license deal with Electronic Arts.

Fans of Star Wars franchise doesn't take any mishandling to their beloved franchise kindly and the way video game publisher Electronic Arts has been treating the licensed properties they received rights to from Disney are absolutely infuriating for anyone who loves them.

Avid video game fan and screenwriter Gary Whitta (After Earth, The Book of Eli), who is widely known for his involvement in story development for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story joins host Greg Miller in the daily podcast of Kinda Funny Games to talk about that.

Following Disney and EA making a decade-long deal that gave the latter exclusive rights to publish Star Wars games, fans have had a lot of expectation for the upcoming years to get some super exciting titles set in the fictional universe created by George Lucas.

The studio even acquired Battlefield series creator DICE, Titanfall development studio Respawn Entertainment and even Visceral Games who were responsible for the Dead Space trilogy but what they have done so far is not looking very good.

RELATED: Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

We are in 2019 and by now, all we have so far is just two installments out of their Star Wars Battlefront series. What we should also take to account is that their greedy approach to include loot boxes within the game has caused major backlash for Star Wars Battlefront II.

In their next insane move, EA went ahead and cancelled an ongoing project code-named "Ragtag" by Visceral, an open-world game from the known franchise. Seeing all these catastrophic action, we have a bad feeling about the fate of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Like any other rational fans of Star Wars, Gary Whitta thinks this is embarrassing and Disney should pull the plug on their deal to take away their license from EA if there is any way for them even though they are only half-way through.

Although he has faith on the upcoming third-person Star Wars game that Respawn has been working on, he really cannot rely on their decision making process after seeing them cancelling project Ragtag that was essentially a "Star Wars Uncharted" game.

For those who are interested in checking out the full video where Gary Whitta expresses his passion for games and Star Wars, the entire conversation is right below.

RELATED: Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

Of course Whitta doesn't voice his concern about the situation from a position of power, neither does he takes business decisions for them but his obvious frustration over their repeated failure is something that the fans can clearly relate to.

As a media giant, Disney should care for the franchise by cutting all ties to the publisher and explore other options for the sake of their own reputation. Obviously, there are many other established and indie studios capable of doing justice to Star Wars.

Courtesy of that breach, screenshots and videos of the title are now being leaked into social media after it surfaced on a now-deleted Facebook Marketplace listing. Several YouTubers took it upon them to warn the others of potential spoilers.

Apparently, someone got copies of Xbox One version of the crossover RPG and it was collected from somewhere within disc-printing or distribution flow. As proof, the person shared a video of booting up screen of the game and the main menu.

Many people on social platforms have claimed to know the seller who has a history with illegitimate sales and somehow has gotten 30 copies of the game using a channel to the manufacturing and printing stream in North Carolina.

Game director Tetsuya Nomura of KH3 has taken Twitter to address the fans not to share any spoilers through images and videos after acknowledging the leak.

Kingdom Hearts 3 sets Sora, Donald and Goofy to Kingdom of Corona from Tangled to meet with Flynn and Rapunzel.

With Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far seeing a successful run on PlayStation 4, players are preparing themselves and building hype for the upcoming action role-playing game Kingdom Hearts III, which is scheduled to be released on January 25, 2019.

Developer/publisher Square Enix is bringing back Sora and his gang consisting Donald Duck, Goofy, King Mickey and Riku for the twelfth installment of the series on PS4 and Xbox One. In the sideline, they are launching some exciting trailers related to the plot.

Sora ended up on Corona with his friends only to come across Rapunzel, who just came out of the tower to see the outside world as Flynn Rider was climbing on it. The golden haired girl is then quickly confronted by plant-like creatures that Mother Gothel probably left behind to keep an eye on her.

Sweet talking thief Flynn points out that he can get her to the Kingdom but to him, Sora and his friends seem to be more accustomed for combat. So, they jump in to help and together they defeated all creatures. The trailer ends with Rapunzel saying "Best day ever!", just like she does at one point in the movie.

Another fun-filled Kingdom Hearts III trailer has just teased players with more exciting stories and it just keeps getting better each time. After crossing over with Big Hero 6, Frozen and Pirates of the Caribbean, bringing Tangled into the mix really set the bar on top.

The last mainline game from the series came out more than a decade ago and so many movies have come out in the mean time. Now that Disney has acquired Pixar, other popular franchise like Monsters, Inc and Toy Story came to play as well.

Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far Announced for PS4

A collection of 9-game from the long-running Kingdom Hearts franchise is coming to PS4 later this month.

Upcoming crossover action role-playing game Kingdom Hearts III from developer/publisher Square Enix is set for a release window of January 2019, aiming for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you are new to the series, chances are that you have a lot to catch up as this is the twelfth installment of the series.

However, Square Enix has made it easy to help you get hold of the complex timeline by announcing a collection of games into one titled Kingdom Hearts: The Story So Far for PS4, coming on October 30, 2018.

Since the first game of the series was released in 2002, it has been difficult for fans to keep up with the story premise of Kingdom Hearts. The Story So Far collects every important piece together for the price of $39.99 and doesn't require anything else. Let's take a look at the games added to the compilation.

  • Kingdom Hearts Final Mix

Although these are an assortment of old games you've played before, updates and minor changes are added along with HD graphics to deliver a refreshing experience to the fans. Even a feature-length film is also included in the package and it is available for pre-order now.

Unfortunately, they didn't announce an Xbox version of the collection and considering how the entire franchise has built up its legacy on PlayStation consoles throughout the years, players on Xbox are the ones who probably needed it the most to catch up with the adventures of Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy.

Until now, there hasn't been a single collection that offered every important part of the overall story and The Story So Far is the most complete bundle ever. Only problem it has is that the games are not listed in chronological order and there are no new content in it.

As you wait for Kingdom Hearts III to arrive and characters from Disney, Final Fantasy, Pixar and The World Ends with You to reunite on January 2019, you have two more months in between to get yourself introduced to the entire plot of the franchise and maybe try to figure out which comes after which.

Star Wars Battlefront II Progression System Revamped

The notorious progression system of the infamous first person shooter Star Wars Battlefront II from last year is going to go through some extreme changes. From developer EA Dice and publisher Electronic Arts, the game had the potential to become one of the most successful games ever tying with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi film of the new trilogy. An upcoming update dated for March 21 will bring change to heroes, weapons and ship upgrade.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Missed Sales Targets

One of the biggest differences between the progression system that is now running and the one that was intended for the game is Star Cards that you could randomly find in loot crates. To boost your stats, the cards are handy but as soon as the update drops, you won't have to look for these cards to shine. The Skill Points you will earn playing multiplayer for experience can be traded to get Star Cards. Then you can upgrade your character, class, weapon or ship as you wish.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Micro-Transactions Outrage

When the initial outrage regarding micro-transactions hit the social media before the launch of Battlefront II, EA removed any scope for spending real-world funds for loot boxes. So, this new update is good news for the fans, who thought using real currency for Crates will rob them off the true enjoyment. Now that those loot boxes can only be opened by stat points, the playing field is leveled and players can mount up credits and crystals to use as in-game currencies by only spending time playing the game.

According to EA, the loot boxes will not contain any Star Cards and nor they are up for purchase with real-world currencies. So, players can stop worrying about buying those Crates and will get those by other means. This might involve creating in-game milestones, completing timed challenges or daily login bonuses and the crates will offer you credits, emotes and items that are entirely cosmetic. This way, loot boxes are not tied to your gameplay at all.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Controversy Hurts EA Stock Price

Character customization however, is not above micro-transactions and is returning in April with a new update. You can buy costumes for your selected characters from the in-game store using Credits or Crystals. Now, whether you should earn your Credits through normal gameplay or buy Crystals with real money for that is completely up to you.

Previously, EA was always against the idea of adding cosmetic items to the game as it violates the official Star Wars canon. Because, Darth Vader with a pink or white drape will not make any sense at all and is wrong on so many levels. Nevertheless, both EA Dice and Electronic Arts are adding these concepts to the game because Disney is OK with this, which they never thought, would be the case.

RELATED: Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

EA is taking a huge step in changing what they have started with Battlefront II and opens up a lot of room for improvement. Aside from adding new content to better the experience, they will probably include new modes and they will be unlike anything we ever saw. Hopefully, the studio took their lessons from the pay-to-win backlash and working to salvage their reputation. Star Wars Battlefront II is available worldwide now to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Disney to Replace EA for Star Wars Games

Rumor has it that, Electronic Arts might be on the brink of losing their privilege of making Star Wars games from now on as they are most probably losing their licensing agreement of the franchise with Disney. Back in 2012, Disney acquired Lucasfilm and shut down LucasArts division almost immediately because they were not very interested developing Star Wars games by themselves and decided to hand over the task to some established third-party instead.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Missed Sales Targets

At that time, EA was their top choice for a developer and publisher company to license the Star Wars franchise for making video games. So, an exclusive multi-year licensing agreement was signed by EA on 2013 with Disney and Lucasfilm to create a number of Star Wars games for all popular platforms out there. Since then, EA has released two Star Wars titles; Star Wars Battlefront (2015) and Star Wars Battlefront II (2017).

RELATED: Star Wars: The Last Jedi Update for Star Wars Battlefront II

Electronic Arts then acquired the developer studio of multiplayer first-person shooter games Titanfall and Titanfall 2, Respawn Entertainment all of a sudden for $151 million, while shutting down Visceral Games. Apparently, EA took charge of Respawn to finish working on a Star Wars title that formerly Visceral Games was developing. If the current rumor about Disney and EA splitting over is true, then the fate of that game will be quite uncertain.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Controversy Hurts EA Stock Price

In accordance to the most current controversy EA has created by subtly forcing micro-transaction concept though in-game loot boxes in the recently released Star Wars Battlefront II has caused a great stir among the fan-base and they were repeatedly bashed at various social media for this insensitive move. Things escalated so bad with this issue that EA even lost market shares and even missed their sales target at the end of the year.

Battlefront II Widespread Backlash

RELATED: Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

Despite EA shutting down the pay-to-win progression system for then, the damage has been done and their reputation was ruined. With worldwide fan-outrage against them, Lucasfilm isn't looking very impressed as well and they are already looking for other big-name studios to handle the licensing deal from here. Most prominent candidates among the studios are Activision and Ubisoft by far but there is still no confirmation from any parties just yet.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Micro-Transactions Outrage

Even though the exact nature of Electronic Arts' licensing agreement with Disney and Lucasfilm isn't exactly very clear but looks like EA was in an exclusive publishing agreement with them and therefore, any other third-party developer studio can develop Star Wars games for EA to publish. However, given the fact that EA do not work with other companies that they do not own or have some sort of control over, it will be difficult for a company to work on that matter.

Star Wars Battlefront II Missed Sales Targets

If things would've been different, Star Wars Battlefront II could have been the successful action shooter video game everyone hoped for it to be. Instead, it becomes such an abomination of the series that the fans held in such high standards previously. All because of Electronic Arts’ (not-so) bright idea of introducing the concept of micro-transactions through in-game loot boxes and thus, causing massive fan outrage.

star wars battlefront 2 underperformed 2017
Star Wars Battlefront II Missed Sales Targets

Recently, Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson of Electronic Arts have revealed their most anticipated release of last year, Battlefront II have failed to meet their expected sales target in their quarterly earnings conference call. EA expected to sell at least 10 million copies within the end of December, which is the third quarter of their 2018 fiscal year but so far, they have shipped only 9 million copies of the game and therefore they are one million copies short to meet the estimated sales target.

RELATED: Star Wars: The Last Jedi Update for Star Wars Battlefront II

According to Wall Street Journal, EA’s chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen states that they require to sell 1 million to 3 million units more within the end of March, the conclusion of the fiscal year. Even if they manage to do that somehow, Battlefront II will still remain behind the previous game of the series, Star Wars Battlefront that shipped over 14 million copies within 2016 fiscal year and was more appreciated by the fans than the current installment.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Controversy Hurts EA Stock Price

When the much-controversial micro-transaction outrage hit EA in the face before the release of the game, they have removed it almost immediately and as a result, players cannot purchase the in-game currency of "Crystals Pack" or any other loot crates anymore. The company also said that they will eventually bring it back and Jorgensen reminded us that they are bringing the in-game purchase system in a few months when they deem fit.

RELATED: Reddit Bashed EA Over Battlefront II Loot Boxes

Needless to say that, the failing to meet sales target was largely because of the greedy attempts of EA to try and slip through the pay-to-win policy in-game. As for an AAA game developer, this move was pretty careless considering people already spending $60 for a full-priced game. At first, many have appreciated them for not including any overpriced season pass DLC but then players found out that Battlefront II has locked weapons and player upgrades after the Beta went public.

Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker Are Locked

Before the release of Star Wars Battlefront II, EA promised to include many fan-favorite and legendary Star Wars characters from all three trilogies of the series but then EA locked out classic characters like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker behind shady paywalls, which was a major disappointment for the dedicated fan-base of Star Wars franchise. Contents based on The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi movie could have added more attraction for the consumers if they hadn't done what they did.

RELATED: Star Wars Battlefront II Micro-Transactions Outrage

Although CEO Andrew Wilson denies it completely, rumor in the air is that, this move has also cost their previous tidy relationship with Disney. Back then, things escalated so much so after a post on Reddit caused the loot crate controversy that Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger had to step up right away and make EA back out of their of pay-to-win practices at that instant.

RELATED: Emperor Palpatine Joins Star Wars Battlefront II

Currently, Star Wars Battlefront II is available worldwide to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Despite considering all the shady moves Electronic Arts tried to pull for a few extra bucks, Battlefront II is pretty enjoyable and even without access of the legendary hero characters upfront, you can still have a good time playing the game and explore the Star Wars universe in your own way.

Plus, they have the release of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi right on the horizon and the studio clearly don't want to be involved in any other controversy regarding the franchise before the film comes out. EA had no other option but to comply as Disney owns both Lucasfilm and the rights to Star Wars. So, they announced that they are backing out of the plan of Battlefront II‘s micro-transactions.

However, Disney's involvement in this issue was not the only thing that shook EA to the core. Recently, the record-setting negativity over Battlefront II also grabbed the attention of Wall Street investors and EA suffers a 2.5 percent drop at their stock price by Friday, November 17. This is also the day when Star Wars Battlefront II saw its release on the market and there is no denying that it affected them.

Star Wars Battlefront II is out now and available to play for all on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Since the game belongs to the Star Wars universe, it can still do well but developers need to make proper and permanent changes to the game before that. The idea of pay-to-win is sickening the video game market as big-time companies are getting more and more interested to it but the protest from the fans have showed that Battlefront II was meant for the Star Wars community, not to become another money making machine for EA.

Star Wars Battlefront II: Behind The Story Trailer

The recent Disney’s D23 Expo offered a lot of Star Wars materials and footage. Lots of games were also displayed. Star Wars Battlefront II also presented a clip titled "Behind The Story" and it features some of the cool stuff we've seen so far from the game yet. During the Level Up live stream, Disney has dropped the video for public to see.

The trailer also showcases some exclusive scenes from Battlefront II‘s single-player campaign and you should check it out right now.

This behind the story trailer offers a perspective that is often missing in the other Star Wars media, which is the viewpoint of the Galactic Empire. Battlefront II is a saga that is close to The Dark Side. We get to peek into the depth of characters like Galactic Empire’s elite force Inferno Squad's leader Commander Iden Versio, her father Admiral Versio and Arrow's Paul Blackthorne’s Gideon Hask. Developers and actors involved in the game also shared their insight about working on Battlefront II. Also, is that a glimpse of Emperor Palpatine at the end of the video?

Actress Janina Gavankar (Grey's Anatomy, True Blood), who played/voiced the character of Iden Versio had this to say.

“This is the culmination of all the things that are good in the world: video games, Star Wars and a team of people that are willing to take the time to do the work.”

A very slight glimpse of gameplay is shown as well as a glance at the legendary Jedi; Luke Skywalker. In a way, the game bridges the story-gap between Return of the Jedi (1983) movie and The Force Awakens (2015). Launching in November 17, Star Wars Battlefront II will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC for playing.
