According to reports, it was a lengthy shooting schedule of actor Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming) for next Spider-Man movie that has forced Knight to leave at this phase of development.

Holland will get busy shooting for third Spider-Man film for Marvel Cinematic Universe in summer of 2020. Aside from other project he has, this will create a scheduling problem since Uncharted was set to release on December 18, 2020.

Uncharted and Last of Us Movie Update

Comic-book and video game based films are getting very popular in Hollywood with each passing year. With many of them earning tons of money in the box-office and some of them failing miserably, they are still trying to figure out how to do things right. Developer Naughty Dog's one of the two most popular video game titles Uncharted and The Last of Us were considered for movie adaptations, regarding which company's creative lead Neil Druckmann has some update.

Uncharted and Last of Us Movie Update

It's about time that we find out how Uncharted and The Last of Us films are progressing and at Las Vegas, D.I.C.E. Summit, Druckmann paid a visit to director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Black Mirror) to discuss the possible storyline for these movies. He also talked with director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Real Steel), whom Druckmann believes has a clear idea of where the studio is currently with these projects and really gets it as it is.

Thinking that people want to make movies based on their games, Neil Druckmann and the crews of Naughty Dog used to get excited. They weren't getting excited to just see a movie on big-screen. Nor they are interested to see a direct adaptation of any of the storylines from the games. Because, Druckmann and team are already pretty good at telling their stories cinematically through a game and that is why they want something different.

Tom Holland Will Play Young Nathan Drake

We already know this that actor Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming) is going to play the role of a young Nathan Drake in Levy's upcoming Uncharted movie. Though the film will not adapt any plot from all the games of the original Uncharted game series, we are expecting to see a sort of origin story for young Nathan Drake that bridges the gap with the game. Director Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, The Grey) has already written an R-Rated script for the film and Sony is apparently happy with it.

About the film adaptations, Neil Druckmann feels it would seem wrong to him and many fans of the game to see someone else stepping into the shoes of the characters in the live-action version instead of the original cast of voice actors. For him, Nolan North, Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker are Nathan Drake of Uncharted, Ellie and Joel of The Last of Us respectively. Someone completely different on these roles will be weird for him to accept.

Druckmann also clarifies this as, if you are to make a movie on AMC's crime drama TV series Breaking Bad and cast someone else other than Bryan Cranston (Argo, Godzilla) to play the role of Walter White then it would just not feel right at all. Dan Trachtenberg however, then presented the idea where he talked about the TV show adaptation of the Fargo movie, which was done right. Despite it being quite difficult to create new characters for that same different world, Druckmann and Trachtenberg both loved the idea.

About The Last of Us live-action film, Druckmann said that he even worked on a script that was pretty much a direct adaptation of the original game and was not that impressive. Now that he left it, he believes it was for the better and no film should be made on that draft either. It's simply not worth it.

Naughty Dog is currently working on the much-anticipated sequel of action-adventure survival horror The Last of Us, The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 4. As for Uncharted series of games, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End was the last game from the core-story of Nathan Drake and probably some other development studio would work on Uncharted 5. The most recent release based on a video game this year would be Oscar winner Alicia Vikander starring action-adventure movie Tomb Raider, releasing on March 16.
