Uncharted Movie Director Travis Knight Exits

Sony loses director Travis Knight for Uncharted movie due to scheduling conflict with actor Tom Holland.

During mid-2019, a definitive release date for live-action Uncharted movie was announced for holiday 2020 that has been long-delayed but then director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, Black Mirror) quits project in August.

Afterwards, director Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings) was hired and he has recently confirmed leaving production as well. Sony Pictures however, still intends to move on with new director on board soon and another date.

According to reports, it was a lengthy shooting schedule of actor Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming) for next Spider-Man movie that has forced Knight to leave at this phase of development.

Holland will get busy shooting for third Spider-Man film for Marvel Cinematic Universe in summer of 2020. Aside from other project he has, this will create a scheduling problem since Uncharted was set to release on December 18, 2020.

Sony is trying their best to make a film adaptation of Uncharted for decades that already has a screenplay draft written by Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Chuck) and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, Transformers: The Last Knight).

In June 2019, Holland is cast to play a young Nathan Drake alongside actor Mark Wahlberg (2 Guns, Pain & Gain), who will co-star in role of Victor "Sully" Sullivan for Uncharted movie that will serve as a prequel to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune game.

Regardless of recent departure of Travis Knight, both Holland and Wahlberg remains attached to the project. Following official announcement back in 2007, Sony has seen many directors, stars and writer walking out of the anticipated movie.

Last year in May, Sony Interactive Entertainment launched brand-new PlayStation Productions studio to adapt their popular first-party titles for films and television, which is currently in charge of Uncharted and The Last of Us movie.
