Epic Games didn't actually need to go out of their way to offer an extra title in their giveaway program but doing that helped promote their store feature and eventually helped drive more people to their outlet seeking those games.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands Adds Mercenaries Mode

Get to the choppa from nearest extraction point as Ghost Recon: Wildlands deploys new Mercenaries game mode for all.

Last time developer/publisher Ubisoft released a free content update "Operation Oracle" for their tactical shooter title Ghost Recon: Wildlands, it ended up laying the foundation for upcoming Tom Clancy shooter Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

Before the sequel eventually releases worldwide on October 4, 2019, one last free update will make it to Wildlands and it intends to feature a brand-new PvPvE mode titled Mercenaries for everyone on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

An official trailer is dropped lately to briefly showcase key-aspects of Mercenaries mode for players of GRW.

Newest Ghost Recon experience will have eight players competing in a challenge to call for a rescue chopper and then race to an extraction point to get to the choppa, so you can escape Unidad territory first before others.

When you will drop, there will be no gears, items or weapons other than a knife to defend yourself against any attacks but you can always look up for loot on-site to get an upper hand over your rivals and enemy troops of course.

Every match in Mercenaries mode will go through three phases and the first thing to do is Recon. You go look for useful intel to pass via radio transmitters for the chopper narrowing down your position for an extraction zone.

It can also lead you to loot cache nearby and even locations of fellow players for a short time. It is up to you to decide whether or not going after items or taking care of other problems at hand will strategically be your best bet for winning.

Once someone activates three transmitters, extraction zone will be discovered and players move to second phase, Helicopter Deployment. It will start flying towards their location and player who sent the call will know where it will land.

However, everyone else will be aware of the site of your chopper when your rescue finally arrives and you can't just expect to hop right in as it does. Extraction can only begin once a gauge is fulfilled and you need to secure landing zone.

Expect some hostile confrontation because others will try to get out but there are checkpoints for extraction gauge to respawn so that you don't need to start over each time someone takes you down and start everything from scratch.

Additionally, there are new armor and health system in place that helps you get back to your feet or patch you up when you start bleeding. Loot gear and weapons are hid behind destructible doors that will give away position of your opponents.

As soon as you complete your first Mercenaries match, you will unlock Lone Wolf costume that belonged to Ghost team leader, Cole D. Walker. Your first win also earns you a Mercenary Patch with more to follow for scoring winning matches.

Watch Dogs: Legion and HitRecord Collaboration Creates Controversy

A partnership with HitRecord to create original music for Watch Dogs: Legion sparks controversy for Ubisoft.

After an initial leak from Amazon product listing, developer/publisher Ubisoft eventually revealed their upcoming open-world hacking adventure game Watch Dogs: Legion before having premiering it at E3 2019 event last month.

Currently, it is due for a March 6, 2020 release on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, publishers are already on hot water after announcing partnership with production company HitRecord to produce music for Legion.

HitRecord is an online platform owned by actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Don Jon, Looper), where its users generate unique ideas for different media and through collaboration, everyone is allowed to take part and improve those as well.

On their recent endeavor with Ubisoft, 10 original songs for upcoming open-world hacktivism adventure are being requested from fan community and they will be will be paying $20,000 for each new song that makes it to final game.

In a recent video, Joe Gordon-Levitt has ‏announced this news to members of the site so that they can all participate.

Almost immediately, an old debate regarding companies soliciting work from fans for big budget games is resurfaced. This however, is not Ubisoft's first rodeo to work with HitRecord and generate controversy for their approach.

They announced working with Levitt's company to get art and music from fans for Beyond Good & Evil 2 at E3 2018 presentation. Both of these companies saw this as a rare opportunity to take part in development but professionals calls it speculative work.

One of their requirement lists for a "Battle Anthem Metal Song", which would be focused around themes like 'Anticipation', 'Determination', 'Marching to battle', 'Power' and 'Violence' as mentioned in its project overview.

WDL lets you play as almost anyone from a vast open-world setting to create your resistance against an authoritative regime and creative director, Cling Hocking came up with an idea to work with fans from over the globe to create its music.

RELATED: Ghost Recon: Breakpoint E3 2019 Gameplay Trailer

Although all proceedings are going to be distributed by HitRecord to people who contributed in this creative process, people are viewing it as replacing talents to work on their projects and trying to get spec work from a volunteer crowd.

Whether or not HitRecord creators see this collab as exploitation, industry professionals are strongly against their business model of going after non-exclusive license content rather than hiring someone on consistent payment.

RELATED: The Division 2 Adds Gunner Specialization

During their first attempt last year, people started trending a #nospec hashtag on Twitter to protest this idea. Renowned industry figures like Mike Bithell, Rami Ismail and Scott Benson has voiced their displeasure over this partnership.

Regardless of how bad majority of a pissed off crowd is trying to paint this partnership as bad, some small time indie creators are still getting benefitted when their work is selected and though it comes rather cheap, the money helps.

RELATED: Rainbow Six Siege Coming to Next-Gen PlayStation and Xbox

They suggested that the publisher may hire artists to commission new songs or license existing tracks for their game. It can also lead to hours of work that doesn't end up being successful submissions and have no use for many creators in the end.

Besides, $2,000 is relatively a very small amount considering how much time needs to put in to a licensed song for AAA-title and it ultimately gets split between everyone who had a contribution that made it to a winning submission.

RELATED: Skull & Bones Delayed to 2020

Ubisoft has addressed the criticism by stating that they are currently working with artists and composers on over 140 licensed songs and an original score for Legion and contribution from HitRecord community is completely voluntary.

We already know Legion is set in post-Brexit era of London city that has completely become a futuristic dystopia through a leaked retailer listing from last week. Citizens become second class following drastic change in politics and technology.

What we know was how almost everyone and everything was under constant surveillance network but what we didn't know was that society is taken over by corrupt private military organization and there are killer drones.

A resistance is formed by secret hactivist group DedSec, who makes their awaited return and player goes out to recruit various NPCs each one with different attributes and skills from open-world streets of London to join their collective.

One of your fellow citizens passing by could be a former MI5 operative, a prominent hacker or a grandma who used to be a professional assassin. Their unique set of skills will often be key to complete various mission objectives at hand.

You may need to pick someone expert in combat who can punch his way out of trouble or good at infiltration to get in places harder to reach. Getting a doctor within your group can benefit all of your team members with health buff.

Though often seem as random, their character traits are distinct and you can literally pick up anyone from in-game world to recruit into your fold. However, none of them will join DedSec immediately and you have to approach them each in different ways.

Players can amass up to 20 rebel members from entire populace to join them and you can switch between them at any time to properly employ their diverse talents. Plus, leveling up your crew earns them extra perks and necessary adjustments.

If you get into a situation and get knocked up, you can either keep fighting or surrender. There is a permadeath system, which means you are out if you go down but if you are sent to jail, at least another DedSec member can bail you out.

RELATED: The Division 2 Adds Gunner Specialization

Ubisoft has planned out a very ambitious gameplay system for WDL by taking their time where hacking your way through London is the only way to get by since civil liberties have been trampled long ago and your rights means nothing.

Aside from arriving on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at launch, Watch Dogs: Legion will also be available on Google Stadia. A city full of recruits opens up possibilities of near-limitless different outcomes and we can't wait to see how that works.

Watch Dogs: Legion Confirmed

Ubisoft took Twitter to announce confirmation for Watch Dogs: Legion after Amazon listing leak and will reveal at E3 2019.

After an accidental leak from Amazon UK product listing has revealed existence of next game from Watch Dogs action-adventure series to be Watch Dogs: Legion, it was eventually confirmed by developer/published Ubisoft on Twitter.

Not only have they officially confirmed newest release from their open-world franchise is in works but has also stated to show up at E3 2019, most likely for a worldwide reveal trailer launch with new trailer and some key-details.

Ubisoft simply posted a brief video of a glitchy red WD logo showing up and confirmation for E3 showcase on Twitter.

RELATED: Rainbow Six Siege Coming to Next-Gen PlayStation and Xbox

Following the leak going public on social media, they officially came out with Legion within next 24 hour. It was not a huge surprise for people because rumors of a third game from Watch Dogs series has been circling around for some time now.

WDL will be set in a post-Brexit, dystopian version of London that saw a massive shift in society because of change in politics and technology. What they are eyeing for here is probably a sensitive issue like mass surveillance and that makes sense.

RELATED: Skull & Bones Delayed to 2020

For a new age of cyber crime spree to spread chaos across the UK capital next, Ubisoft will build up a highly detailed London city for Legion like they previously did with Chicago and San Francisco in past installments of WD franchise.

Although we already know that player would be able to play as any NPC if they want to, some mysteries are still there. This cryptic line from publisher Tweet, "God Save the NPCs." may hint at victimization of in-game NPCs like never before.

RELATED: Rainbow Six Siege: Operation Phantom Sight Revealed

We did not learn much other than a title confirmation and an upcoming reveal over at E3 from this Twitter reveal but it was a decent move by the studio to simply assure fans what they have been hyping and speculating all along for a while.

It would really be interesting to see how Ubisoft is going to make Watch Dogs: Legion stand apart among so many free-roaming games set in open-world these days but many fans would probably be happy to get back to their favorite series once again.

Watch Dogs: Legion Leaked on Amazon

A recent leak from Amazon UK listing revealed next Watch Dogs game title that lets you play as NPC characters.

Up until now there were only rumors for the next game in Watch Dogs franchise existing as well as couple of hints here and there but thanks to an accidental product listing in advance by Amazon UK lately, that has been changed.

It appears that Watch Dogs: Legion is going to be upcoming open-world game from popular action-adventure series from developer/published Ubisoft and it also has some details about story settings and unique gameplay feature.

An early rumor suggested that the game will be set in London and according to leaks; it seems to be accurate after all. Also, Legion seems to be a legit title given how this one has come out from several credible sources lately.

After exploring two major cities in U.S. like Chicago and San Francisco in two early releases of Watch Dogs series, moving over to a new location would most likely allow for Ubisoft to experiment with a lot of new stuff in hacker culture.

The game is set in a post-Brexit world where society has gone through a huge shift and players will be able to play as anyone. Depending on which NPC characters you are playing as, there might be variable different things to come across.

Developing such a system should give developers quite a pain and don't be surprised if they even delay it once. Ubisoft is definitely going for a more serious tone with WDL with a dystopian London that already has highest surveillance systems.

RELATED: Assassin's Creed Unity Positively Review-Bombed on Steam

Unofficial count says that there is currently a network of at least 1.85 millions security cameras installed throughout cities of U.K. with its politics is also changing right now and that makes the city a perfect playfield choice for Legion.

Since Watch Dogs: Legion was listed for PlayStation 4, we can safely assume that it would also launch on PC and Xbox One too with possibility of crossing over to next-gen consoles in future but we will probably learn more on that at E3 2019.
