Ghost of Tsushima Standalone Expansion Ghost of Ikishima Rumoredly Coming in 2021

Last year's critically-acclaimed and financially successful samurai action-adventure title Ghost of Tsushima by developer Sucker Punch Productions and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment is one the best PlayStation 4-exclusives ever.

Amidst previous rumors of an upcoming PlayStation 5 project and a possible PC release lately, a new report claims that Sucker Punch is currently busy developing a sequel-like standalone DLC expansion titled Ghost of Ikishima for this year.

In a recent post on Twitter, XboxERA co-founder Shpeshal_Nick reveals that Ghost of Ikishima will be "an expandalone type game" that is nearly the same size as Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and heading for a late 2021 release.

Although no platform was confirmed by known leaker, Ghost of Ikishima is likely to be a cross-gen launch. Until there is an official confirmation, such rumors should be taken with a grain of salt but Shpeshal_Nick's claim makes sense.

Sony and Sucker Punch would love to roll out a new Ghost of Tsushima entry to expand a library of games for PS5 in year one. Ghost of Ikishima could help officially introduce Sony's newest IP to next-gen console and huge PS4 community.

Ghost of Tsushima focuses on Mongol invasion of Japan late 13th century and samurai Jin Sakai becomes the Ghost to wage war. Ikishima is a neighboring island of Tsushima and could see Jin return in action to protect it from invader army.

Sony may end up announcing Ghost of Ikishima, upcoming single-player DLC or mini-sequel for Tsushima during a State of Play stream soon. Horizon Forbidden West was already showcased last month and there could be another in July.

Of course, Sucker Punch Productions is not yet done with Ghost of Tsushima and they launched a free co-op multiplayer mode "Legends" within months after release while a movie adaptation is in talks with John Wick director Chad Stahelski.
