Age of Empires 4 May Be Announced for Xbox Consoles

A historic return to glory, 2021 real-time strategy game Age of Empires IV from developer Relic Entertainment and publisher Xbox Game Studios is latest entry in Age of Empires franchise that focuses on civilizations of early Middle Ages.

Originally debuted on PC platform via Microsoft Store and Steam last year, a console version is seemingly in development and a newfound leak online clearly suggests that an Xbox version is being tested internally for console right now.

According to Twitter user @ALumia_Italia, new code for a Microsoft product has been spotted at Xbox version of Insider Hub platform lately, labeled as "XIP_CAR_JANUARY_2022" and "CAR" is used as a short name for "CARDINAL" here.

For further context, "CARDINAL" is internal code name for Age of Empires IV at Microsoft and maybe an Xbox version is currently at works and this is the first time they mentioned XIP (Xbox Insider Preview) for internal test of CARDINAL.

Aggiornamenti Lumia shared newfound code name for Xbox version of Age of Empires IV in a recent Tweet.

Although never been officially announced by Microsoft yet, AoE4 port for Xbox consoles seems very likely following console launch of 2020 strategy simulator Microsoft Flight Simulator, which became third best-selling Xbox game in 2021.

Age of Empires IV is a great nostalgic trip to memory lane for long-time series fans despite lack of innovations. AoE4 was a best-seller for Steam on launch month and could be a major hit for Xbox cross-generation console family as well.
