Injustice 2 Scrapped Character Concept Art Revealed

New unused character designs of John Constantine, Krypto the Superdog and Penguin for the game revealed by Injustice 2 concept artist.

Following their immense success with 2013's fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us, NetherRealm Studios came up with a sequel, Injustice 2 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017, that even surpassed its predecessor in many aspects.

The game has a roster full of iconic DC Comics characters as playable fighters as well as other heroes like Hellboy from Dark Horse Comics and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from IDW Publishing. Recently, a number of unused concept arts have revealed a few characters that didn't make it to the final roster.

Shared on ArtStation by senior concept artist Justin Murray, these min-blowing artworks of the characters from Injustice comic books has Batman's protege Bluebird, Detective ChimpEtrigan the DemonJohn Constantine, Krypto the Superdog and Penguin.

During the story arc in comics, they have either sided with The Regime and The Insurgency or chose their own way but there was no apparent reason for excluding them from the game. However, we didn't wait for any official statement and have our own theory on it.

For one, neither Detective Chimp nor Penguin is a competitive fighter who can give other playable characters a tough time. Even occult detective John Constantine is no physical combatant despite him being a highly skilled sorcerer.

Young vigilante hero Bluebird on the other hand could've made it but considering other better-known costumed fighters like Batgirl and Zatanna didn't made it to the sequel, this electrical engineer from Batman comics introduced during the run of Scott Snyder (All-Star Batman – My Own Worst Enemy, Batman – Court of the Owls) had slim chances.

Another plausible reason for these characters not to show up in Injustice 2 maybe because many of them ended up dying in the Injustice: Gods Among Us comic-book series, thus their presence in the game could have been tricky for the storyline to connect.

Etrigan The Demon lost his connection to mortal realm when Jason Blood, his human host was killed in a battle against The Regime. Although John Constantine didn't die after his rebellion of magic community took a stand opposing Superman, he simply left the conflict.

The original publisher for the Mortal Kombat series, NetherRealm Studios may strongly consider another sequel to the Injustice franchise and these characters can even show up in that game if they are somehow brought back to the tie-in comic-books.

According to some recent rumor flying around, the studio is already working on a new project and it can either be a new installment for Mortal Kombat or Injustice 3, which we can only tell for sure once we get some more evidence on hand.
