Ubisoft to Shut Down Servers for Older Games and Access to DLCs

Earlier in April 2022, French video game developer/publisher Ubisoft decided to officially close down multiplayer servers for several classic games like Avatar, Rainbow Six: Vegas and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, closing their online section forever.

In a latest round of server closure this year, Ubisoft will be shutting down online services shortly for a number of old titles and players will no longer be able to access or install DLCs for many of these games, starting from September 1, 2022.

Following shutdown, multiplayer features for some classic games like Assassin's Creed II, Driver: San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands, Splinter Cell: Blacklist and ZombiU becomes unavailable.

Players will only be able to experience single-player campaign via offline mode for titles like GR: Future Soldier. You can't link Ubisoft account to these games and unlock goodies, maps or skins, with challenges and units being disabled as well.

Below is a complete list of Ubisoft games across various platforms that are going to be taken offline soon.

  • Anno 2070
  • Assassin's Creed II
  • Assassin's Creed III
  • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
  • Assassin's Creed III: Liberation HD
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations
  • Driver: San Francisco
  • Far Cry 3
  • Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
  • Rayman Legends
  • Silent Hunter 5
  • Space Junkies
  • Splinter Cell: Blacklist
  • ZombiU

Most of these games listed above are quite old and has single-player mode but 2019 VR arcade shooter Space Junkies is multiplayer-only title and therefore, it completely becomes unplayable on HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in coming months.

Ubisoft claims that closing online services for some of these older titles will allow them to focus resources for newer and popular games. Although original games lose multiplayer functionality, remaster versions will possibly stay unaffected.
