Halo: The Master Chief Collection to Add Cross-Play

343 Industries plans to add cross-play, custom game browser and more to Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

While anticipating release of upcoming first-person shooter Halo Infinite for holiday 2020, developer 343 Industries and publisher Xbox Game Studios are still committed to include new games to Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

In a recent update, Halo 3 joined Master Chief Collection and 343 Industries plans to introduce cross-play, custom game browser, input-based matchmaking, keyboard and mouse support and server region selection by end of 2020.

Cross-play support will enable players on Windows PC and Xbox consoles to jump together into adventure. You are most likely to get paired with a player with same input device such as controller or keyboard, in input-based matchmaking.

Aside from their key-features to include in roadmap for 2020, dev team has also planned for double keybinds for all games, in-game frame rate cap adjustments, PC file share, quality of life improvements, Steam account linking and more.

Despite having a rocky launch back in 2014, Master Chief Collection has improved over time and 343 seems to be more than willing to update its multiplayer experience just for the price of base game or an Xbox Game Pass membership.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection was originally launched by 343 Industries and Microsoft with Halo: Reach back in 2019. Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3 have been added to Halo: MCC and Halo 3: ODST is expected to join next.

Halo Infinite Campaign Gameplay Revealed

343 Industries offers a first-look at campaign gameplay of Halo Infinite during Xbox Games Showcase today.

A year ago, a cinematic trailer titled "Discover Hope" offered first glimpse at story premise for upcoming first-person shooter title Halo Infinite by developer 343 Industries and SkyBox Labs, in association with publisher Xbox Game Studios.

Since E3 2020 has now been cancelled due to a global pandemic of Coronavirus outbreak, 343 Industries and Microsoft announced in March to reveal long-anticipated gameplay footage in a demo trailer at Xbox Games Showcase digital event.

After a Pelican pilot finds Master Chief floating in space, he reaches out and revives him earlier. As they are forced to crash land on the ring when they are shot at with anti-aircraft guns, Chief decides to go out and take care of business.

Halo Infinite delves into its classic gameplay mechanic from very beginning and players will be wielding a variety of weapons. To engage enemies in combat, Chief will be using MA40 assault rifle to VK78 Commando and even plasma grenade.

Driving a Warthog into battle, he comes across several members of the alien race known as Banished and their War Chief Escharum. John-117 can traverse through locations using a world map or simply running and gunning towards levels.

Infinite is said to be several times larger than last two series releases, powered by Slipspace Engine. One of the most amazing feats of display was latest inclusion of grappling hook for traversal into map and return of shield technology.

One missing aspect was exclusion of online multiplayer mode, which is an essential experience for any games of Halo series. Microsoft Studios hosting a major reveal event without giving a peek at multiplayer gameplay seems quite odd.

Xbox has announced recently that there will be another digital showcase in coming months to reveal Xbox Series X launch date and hopefully, they will treat fans with a much-awaited look at Halo Infinite multiplayer mode at a later date.

Infinite is a launch title for Microsoft's next-gen console and a "spiritual reboot" to Halo military shooter franchise. However, gameplay demo didn't look much like next-gen compared to any of its very impressive looking cut-scenes so far.

Though a release date is yet to be revealed, Halo Infinite is set to arrive this holiday season for Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles via Microsoft Store and Steam, while also simultaneously launching on Xbox Game Pass.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection Becomes Best-Selling Steam Game

Right after launching on PC, Halo: The Master Chief Collection becomes top-selling game on Steam.

After recent change in business strategy of introducing first-party games on PC and Xbox consoles in recent years, Microsoft Studios have announced to bring Halo: The Master Chief Collection to PC via Steam earlier this year.

Five years after original release on Xbox One, players can finally enjoy Halo: MCC on a platform other than console and this definitive series compilation becomes top-selling game on Steam following recent inclusion of Halo: Reach.

Master Chief Collection on PC comes with key-features like better optimization settings, 67 campaign missions, over 120 multiplayer maps, access to Halo Insiders program and more, which are clear improvements over Xbox release.

MCC bundle debuts with Reach and will continue to launch five more remaining titles by ending with Halo 4 in 2020. Those games will be adding more single-player and multiplayer content, which would possibly draw more players then.

Before debuting on popular PC gaming platform Steam, players had to purchase through and play the game using Windows Live service. However, things have changed for better and Microsoft is even offering Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Launching in parts, you can purchase MCC at Steam for $39.99 only or get it on Game Pass for PC at just $5.99. Currently, they are offering a deal of only $1 for three months but fans are mostly heading over to Valve outlet.

Right now, Master Chief Collection is outperforming other global top-selling and most played games like Monster Hunter: World and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, both of which are available at 50% discount on the platform.

Although Microsoft is more interested in garnering more members for Game Pass service, Xbox head Phil Spencer considers people buying the game on Steam or their subscription service a major win despite their main focus on the latter.

Military sci-fi first-person shooter series Halo undoubtedly is one of the most iconic video game franchises from Microsoft Studios but MCC topping PC sales chart was largely unexpected now that it is gotten old and was buggy at launch.

It has likely happened because Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been a console-exclusive that has debuted on largest community platform for PC players and Microsoft has fixed a lot of its issues for port over past few years.

Halo Infinite Lead Producer Exits 343 Industries

Mary Olson, lead campaign producer of upcoming first-person shooter title Halo Infinite leaves 343 Industries this weekend.

A short while ago in August, news came out that creative director Tim Longo of upcoming first-person shooter game Halo Infinite has left developer studio 343 Industries, only a year before its scheduled release in fall 2020.

According to Reddit and ResetEra, the company is seeing another leadership shakeup this weekend as lead campaign producer Mary Olson is also leaving 343, who was an executive producer and was promoted earlier.

Such big departures from a very ambitious project over a short period time would likely to have people assume that the project is currently having a leadership crisis and though it is a valid concern, an employee of 343 suggests otherwise.

After Olson's departure became public knowledge, Halo community manager John Junyszek came forward clarifying what both Tim & Mary's roles were within company, which seems to create a lot of confusion lately.

Junyszek wrote his point in a Reddit comment from his account where he talked about what Mary Olson and Tim Longo was doing at 343. Longo was hired to make creative decisions about game direction including campaign, multiplayer and more.

Mary was an executive producer, who then became lead producer to help development team deliver the game before holiday 2020 release date and her primary objective was to focus on achieve completion of its core campaign.

Olson joins developer/publisher Midwinter Entertainment to work on upcoming multiplayer survival shooter Scavengers. Nevertheless, it won't cause any creative dilemma as she was not in charge of major creative decisions at 343 Industries.

Halo Infinite was announced as a launch title for next-gen Microsoft console Project Scarlett back in E3 2019, which will see long-awaited return of a renowned first-person shooter game series next year and a cross-platform release.

Halo Infinite Creative Director Exits 343 Industries

Tim Longo, creative director for upcoming first-person shooter title Halo Infinite leaves 343 Industries this week.

It has taken fifteen years for first-person shooter franchise Halo to return with a mainline sequel that is Halo Infinite, revealed back in E3 2018 and that teaser trailer was followed by another one during Xbox press briefing at E3 2019.

Currently scheduled for release window of fall 2020, developer 343 Industries is seeing a sudden leadership shakeup only a year before planned launch as creative director of the game, Tim Longo leaves studio this week.

Microsoft has released an official statement on this recent change and what it means for Infinite development team.

Roles and responsibilities of various team members regularly evolve to meet the needs of a game, throughout development. We have recently had two changes to the Halo Infinite development team. Our Executive Producer, Mary Olson will now take charge of the Campaign team on Halo Infinite as the Lead Producer, utilizing her many years of experience at 343 to help craft a great campaign for fans. Additionally, Tim Longo has recently departed our team and we are truly thankful for his many contributions to our games, our studio and the Halo universe. We wish Tim nothing but the best in his future endeavors.

Back in 2013, there was actually a rumor of a Halo TV series that was supposed to be helmed by Steven Spielberg. Since then, all we've been hearing was bunch of reports but no official statement. However, this official announcement from Showtime president and CEO David Nevins gives a real confirmation of the project actually moving ahead for production. Nevins believes, there haven't been enough great science fiction stories in television show history and Halo is going to change that.

RELATED: Halo Infinite Announced

According to reports, the story will take place when the fictional universe of 26th-century debuted in 2001, which means, it will probably take inspiration from Halo: Combat Evolved. An interstellar war against humanity that is sparked by an alien race of the Covenant is the base of the story. David Nevins also states that, this version of the story will not just please the fans but newcomers too will be drawn towards it. Which actor will step into the valiant shoes of protagonist Master Chief is yet not declared.

Although it literally took ages for such a fan-favorite series to have a live-action adaption other than comic-books, hardcore fans would deeply appreciate the effort and will reinvigorate the hype for entire franchise. There is lot of scopes to explore this unique universe built and many creative ways to tie-in with games continuity. If done right by finding a right balance of characters and story, Halo can effectively lift the video game curse of their adaption not being acclaimed enough.

But before we go any further, take a moment and check out this clip showcasing aspects of Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare.

It is a completely new digital expansion for Halo Wars 2 and a new Banished campaign is one of the primary features of it along with new maps to explore, Blur cinematics to behold, new leaders to follow and a new game mode called Terminus Firefight to experience; all in one great pack. The expansion is the successor of Halo Wars 2's most recent release of DLC leader YapYap The Destroyer.

Awakening the Nightmare expansion pack will take the players to the time where the battle for control of the Ark is still raging prior to the story of Halo Wars 2. While trying to get the drop on Captain Cutter and his fighters on board UNSC Spirit of Fire, The Banished somehow learns that their interest in this venture can lead them to major consequences, eventually taking shape of the Flood!

The developers of the game are also working on building a support system for Spectator Mode and Arena functionality but no release date is announced yet. This lets you watch online matches played by other people and take part in Xbox Live tournaments on a large scale. Halo Wars 2 and Halo 5: Guardians will have 4K support from November 7, when Xbox One X finally comes out of the shadow. Awakening the Nightmare will also receive the HDR support as well.

Recently, on stage of Gamescom 2017, it was announced that Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare is going to be available from September 26, 2017 on Xbox One and Windows PC!
