Capcom is Testing New Resident Evil Multiplayer Game

To celebrate 25th Anniversary of Resident Evil survival horror franchise, a Closed Beta testing has been announced by developer/publisher Capcom ahead of upcoming showcase event for Resident Evil: Village on January 21, 2021.

If you are over 18 years old and have a valid Capcom ID, you need to apply before January 20, 2021, to participate. Players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are invited to join ongoing Closed Beta from January 27 to January 29, 2021.

Members of Resident Evil Ambassador program with a Silver rank or above has a higher chance of getting selected. Those who own PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S can still get access to and play last-gen versions on next-gen consoles.

Capcom already worked on a Resident Evil online game with 1v5 asymmetrical survival game Resident Evil: Resistance, a multiplayer component for Resident Evil 3 Remake as a replacement to fan-favorite Mercenaries mini-game mode.

Players will get a first-look at Resident Evil: Village gameplay footage during scheduled digital event later this week. Several hints also confirm that Capcom is set to reveal a new multiplayer experience set within Resident Evil universe.

Capcom's unannounced multiplayer title is likely to be Resident Evil Outrage, one of the leaked projects from last year. Details from early data breach suggest that it is currently in works and is set to launch on fourth quarter of this year.

Capcom is planning to release an anime series, manga and a TV series for Netflix in celebration of Resident Evil 25th Anniversary. Constantin Film and Sony Pictures is producing a live-action movie reboot to release theatrically on 2021.

Resident Evil multiplayer could be an online experience bundled with Resident Evil: Village just like RE: Resistance. Capcom may also end up revealing Resident Evil 4 Remake, a long-rumored project under development by M-Two studio.
